I read the book, “Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder.” The main character in the book would be Nilly. He just recently moved to Oslo, Norway. He gets made fun of quite a bit for being different and to top it off, he’s a total wiz at playing the trumpet. He gets along with other very well and easily because when he first got there, he opened up to everyone and was very friendly. Sadly though, they still made fun of him. He finally found a friend that was actually nice to him and treated him like a good friend unlike the others. Her name is Lisa. Her previous best friend had moved to France with her family and Lisa really had no one else. Since Nilly and Lisa were practically neighbors, it would be easier to hang out and become really good friends. Soon after his family was settled into their new house and Nilly was familiar with the town and people, him and Lisa started to become super close. They did almost everything together and hung out everyday after school. Another way to describe Nilly would be that he was pretty much a prodigy born at birth. He was very intelligent and was always coming up with brilliant ideas. Such as when him, Lisa, and their other neighbor Dr. Proctor came together to make an invention of fart powder and Lisa and Dr. Proctor were wondering how you could make it more powerful and do more things. The two of them were completely dumbfounded and of course, Nilly came up with an outstanding idea. He told them that they could have added more of some of the ingredients to make it so that they could shoot kids up into outer space and then sell it to NASA for extra money. Then Lisa came up with an idea shockingly that if they could make it so that it’s that powerful, then they could sell it to the kids in the school for more money and then she could raise money for herself to go visit her best friend in France. Nilly was always a helpful friend and always put others before him and tried to make everybody else happy even if he wasn’t the happiest kid in the world. An example would be that when he and Dr. Proctor ended up in jail, he risked himself to go down into the sewer where all the anacondas were and try to save the invention before the evil twins, Truls and Tym came and stole it and took all the credit for it.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes to have an easy read and likes to read all about fiction and no where near nonfiction. It’s about farting! So if you’re more of a person that would rather read about something that could be realistic or something that was close to nonfiction, this would definitely not be the book choice for you. I loved the book a lot because these are the kinds of books I enjoy reading. I absolutely hate books that are serious and dull. I could reread this over and over just because of the fact that it kept be laughing so much and I’ve never laughed so much while reading any kind of book. The book was a perfect length for the book because it wasn’t too long, nor was it too short. There was a lot of fantasy in the book as well because I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be able to get eaten by an anaconda and then fly back out when the anaconda burps. The only thing I would change about the book would be that I wish that it was more descriptive on some parts because in some areas of the book, it was kind of hard to comprehend what was happening in the time. Another thing I wish was different about the book would be some what of more action happening. There was really no big of a climax at all and when there was, it wasn’t anything that would keep you on the edge of your seat. It made you want to keep reading, but I wish there would have been more action in it than just explaining all the adventures that Nilly, Lisa, and Dr. Proctor go through. Throughout the whole entire book, there was a point where I just wanted to set the book down because it just got too boring. But since I was almost done with it, I kept reading it and I’m glad I didn’t stop reading it because it turned out to be tremendously hilarious. I think that anyone who decides to read this book would either love it or hate it. There is not really an in between answer. It’s pretty much just one or the other. I hated how they all split in the end when they bonded so well throughout the entire book and then all of a sudden they just drifted apart from each other. If they all stayed close still, I think it would’ve made a huge impact on how the ending would’ve ended.

Part 1:
I read the book, "Chu Ju's House" by Gloria Whelan. I thought it was actually a pretty decent book to read. Around this time frame, China only lets families have two kids per family and they prefer only boys because boys are more useful than girls are they think and that they'll be able to pass on another family better than girls will. But when her mom gets pregnant, the whole family is hoping that it'll be a boy; too bad not all stories have happy endings right? The baby comes out to be a girl unfortunately, and when she finds out that her grandmother is planning to put her baby sister Hua up for sale at an orphanage, she decides to do something about it. She decides to run away so they could try again for a boy and make her family proud, but she also runs away to try and save her sister as well. Just at the age of fifteen is when her journey started. Throughout her entire journey, she goes to various types of places and learns how to do a whole bunch of new things such as making rice and cooking fish, but not only that but meets new people on her way there too.
I would recommend this book who enjoys reading about the law in China and how they would have their families set up. But I would also recommend this to someone who is not looking for humor, but more about solving a problem by going on various types of journeys around China. It starts off kind of slow and goes up in action at times you wouldn't expect it too, but I thought it was one of the best books I've ever read. It's also an easy read so it wouldn't take too long to finish, but it's definitely worth every second!
